Chi?in?u is the capital of Moldova. Chisinau, the capital of Moldova was earlier known as Kishinev. Chisinau is the greatest and the most popular city in Moldova. The name of the city of Chisinau was adopted from the word "chisla noua" which means new spring. It is regarded as the spring around which the city of Chisinau was developed and it is located at the end of Albisoara and Pushkin streets. The capital of Moldova, Chisinau is the primary hub of all the political, administrative and cultural activities of Moldova. Its recognition as the capital city was granted in the year 1940. After the disintegration of USSR, Chisinau was given the status of the capital of Moldova.

Moldova capital, Chisinau, is located in the middle of the Republic of Moldova on the Bic river. The total area covered by the city of Chisinau is one hundred and twenty square kilometers. The capital lies on the seven hills. The city of Chisinau is regarded as the greenest city of Europe. The total population of Chisinau, the capital of Moldova exceeds seven lakhs. In the year 1774 the total population of Chisinau happened to stand at only six hundred people. From that time onwards the population of Chisinau started increasing till the period of the disintegration of USSR. But soon after the disintegration of USSR, the population of Chisinau started decreasing. But gradually the capital of Moldova, Chisinau, increased its population strength and now it is the largest city of Moldova. The capital city of Moldova, Chisinau is divided into five sectors namely Botanica, Buiucani, Riscani, Centru and Ciocana.

There is the presence in Chisinau of a number of tourist attractions. Chisinau has a number of parks and the presence of tress across the streets in Chisinau has added to the greenery. In the parks, there is the presence of as many as fourteen species of birds and amphibians. Apart from the lakes and parks, Chisinau also has many monuments and museums.

Chisinau is well connected with the different parts of Moldova by modern means of transport. Buses, trolleybuses and jitneys form a part of the public transport system.
