Micronesia football is played under the jurisdiction of Micronesia Football Association or FSMFA. The football scene in Micronesia is at its nascent stage. The Micronesia Football Association was formed in the year 1999 in order to promote the sport among the independent island nations forming the archipelago of Federated States of Micronesia.
Football in Micronesia reached great heights under the able guidance of the Micronesia Football Association and for the past 22 years Micronesia has been taking part in several football tournaments and proving their worth in the world of sports. The year 1992 saw a pioneering effort to train the Micronesian islanders the finer points of world class football. Formation of a football league marked the first step towards the development of the game.
Gradually various clubs were set up in order to enable the islanders master the game. Viewing the growing popularity of football catalyzed the inclusion of Micronesia in the Oceania Division of International Olympic Committee. The archipelago houses no professional clubs however there are amateur clubs. The teams of these clubs compete within the states likely Yap, Chuuk and Pohnpei.
In the year 1999, Micronesia Cup was held in Yap, where three teams competed against each other. The event was held for the first time in the Federated States of Micronesia. Micronesia football shows great promise in the Pacific Ocean region.
