Micronesia Industry forms 15.2% of the GDP( composition by sector) and employs 34.4% of the total population. The scope of development of the industrial sector of Micronesia, particularly in fishing and tourism, is immense. The other industries of Micronesia include coconut soap and oil production, construction, handicrafts, etc.
The different regions of Micronesia form centers of small- scale industries. A feedmill, a brick manufacturing plant, an ice production plant and a coconut processing plant located in Pohnpei serve as the main Micronesia industries in that region. Small industries like a garment factory, a boat- building plant, a breadfruit flour plant and a coconut processing plant in Truk form some of the most important industries of Micronesia.
A small industry center and a wood processing plant in Kosrae and cottage industries in Yap also feature as Micronesia industries. Micronesia fishing has been developing since the set up of a tuna processing plant in 1999.
