The Yap Day Festival, Micronesia is the most important occasion of the Yapese. All the people of the four islands of Yap indulge in merriment during this festive season. The carnival takes place in the first weekend of March. This is a festival of joy and color which is celebrated with grandeur. In this occasion women and men wear their conventional costumes and perform dances to entertain the people. The Yapese is also very well-known for their spiritual conventions. The Yap Day Festival of Micronesia is popularly known as a dance fiesta.
The various types of dances that take place in this occasion include stick dances, kneeling dances, standing dances, and sitting dances. Colorfully dressed men and women perform beautiful dance feats bewitching the spectators. Such is the importance of the Yap Day festival, Micronesia that the participants start choreographing their dance from the previous year.
Various western and traditional delicacies are served to the visitors during this festive occasion. Every year, different Yapese villages organize the entire event and competitions also take place among the villagers. On the last day of the occasion, a welcome reception is organized for the visitors by the Yap Visitors Bureau. People who have traveled from far-off places to watch this dance festival are greeted cordially by the villagers and are honored at the end of the festivity.
