Mauritius arts and entertainment feature a lot of diversity due to the intermingling of various cultures and communities living on the island. It is inhabited by the Indians, Creoles, Chinese and the Europeans. Various artworks of Mauritius include baskets, woodcrafts, embroidered saris and clothes, Indian pottery works, embroidery works of China and various objects depicting the local animals of Mauritius.

Mauritius arts and entertainment is characterized by multi-culturalism. The island is known for Sega music and dance. Sega has originated from Africa. Three musical instruments that are used during Sega dance performance are ravanne, maravanne or coco and the triangle. The female dancers wear colorful blouse and skirt during its performance. At the beginning, the dance has a slow movement of the hips that becomes faster with music.

Entertainment in Mauritius

For entertainment, the people can visit the Central Market for shopping. Various jewelries and handicrafts can be got from the Caudan Waterfront located in Port Louis. The Caudan market is a storehouse of Chinese and Indian jade, jewelries, glass and baskets. The local shops are located at Quatre-Bornes, Curepipe and Rose Hill. Designer shops can be found in Grand Baie.

A number of bars, casinos and restaurants can be located in Port Louis. There are sega discotheques in Grand Baie in the hotels and town area. Most of the Chinese restaurants are found in Port Louis. This place also has got Indian food stalls selling curried rolls, samosas and rotis.

Divers can have pleasant time at Grand Baie, Rodrigues Island and Flic-en-Flac. The beach is suitable for diving activity. There is a water park at Belle Mare. Dolphins can be seen at the Tamarin Bay. For trekking and hiking, the people can visit Riviere Noire National Park, Rodrigues Island and Reserve Forrestiere Macchabee.

Horse racing takes place at Champ de Mars on weekends in the months of May to October. There are golf courses at Ile Aux Cerf, Belle Mare Plage and Le Paradis. Besides, this game can also be played at La Pirogue, St Geran Hotel, Sugar Beach and Maritim and Trou aux-Biches.
