Mauritius nature and habitat refers to the wide range of flora and fauna available in the country. There are around 700 plant species in the entire country, among which 311 are endemic species. Of these endemic species, 113 species of plants are present in Mauritius nature and habitat, among which 50 are threatened. One of the chief reasons behind this is the presence of the introduced varieties of plants and animals in the land.
The tropical climate of the country provides optimum support for the growth of Mauritius nature. The climate of the country remains temperate round the year. The summer season is hot and humid, while the winter season remains quite sunny and warm in comparison to other European nations.
The southern coast of Mauritius has few resorts and beaches but the humid weather of the region has offered proper environment in Mauritius for growth of lush green vegetation. A large variety of endemic plants as well as trees are present in the southern regions of the country. The southern coast also contains some of the shallow lagoons with crystal clear water. This is the only region where the sea hits straight on to the rocks and is therefore a dangerous region for bathing.
