The Prime Minister of Mauritius Prime Minister is the head of the Government. According to the political system of the country, the Prime Minister along with his Cabinet Ministers is responsible and answerable to the National Assembly.
The President of Mauritius consults the Prime Minister and his Cabinet Ministers in special cases relating to the administration of the country.

Mauritius Prime Minister is elected through the general elections that are held in the country after every five years. The leader of the majority party is selected as the Prime Minister of the country. The prime minister handles some of the ministries and departments in the country, which include the Ministry of Civil Service & Administrative Reforms, Ministry of Defense & Home Affairs and Ministry of Rodrigues & Outer Islands. Apart from these, there are also other offices held by the Prime Minister. These include:

* Civil Service and Administrative Reforms
* Defense, Law and Order
* Citizenship, Civil Status
* Meteorological Service
* Electoral Affairs and Electoral Commissions

  • Anerood Jugnauth (12 March 1992 to 15 December 1995)
  • Navinchandra Ramgoolam (15 December 1995 to 11 September 2000)
  • Anerood Jugnauth (12 September 2000 to 7 October 2003)
  • Paul Berenger (7 October 2003 to 5 July 2005)
  • Navin Ramgoolam (5 July 2005 to Present)
Navinchandra Ramgoolam, the current Prime Minister of Mauritius is affiliated to the Labour Party. This is his second term as the prime minister; Ramgoolam was the prime minister of Mauritius between 22 December 1995 -17 September 2000.
