The participation of Mauritania at the Olympics is far less than any other countries in the world. It is only six times in 1984, 1988, 1992, 1996, 2000 and 2004, that the world witnessed Mauritania at the Olympics, performing actively in the summer games and events. The different events in which the participants took part in, comprised Women's 100 meters, Men's Marathon, Men's 400 meters in Athletics and Men's 1500 meters.
The Olympic Participation of Mauritania is less promising in the sense that it is yet to win medals in this international sports event. The primary cause for this may be that the country entered the summer Olympic events at a much later stage. As a result, its experience for contesting the game is naturally much less compared to other participating nations.
In order to gain expertise and competence in the different activities and events in the Olympics, Mauritanian athletes are trying day and night relentlessly. In the process of rigorous practice, the players are gradually acquiring skills and learning various tactics which are essential for achieving successes in the big event. Through dedicated practice, the country is trying to overcome all gaps and loopholes and attain best sporting standards. This will enable them to attain desirable gross performance at the forthcoming Olympics, thereby earning immense fame and accolades to the nation.
