Mauritania National Rugby Union Team is the sole representative of rugby from Mauritania in the global rugby union. In reality, the Mauritania National Rugby Union Team upholds the tradition of rugby football both on national and international levels, maintaining it till date.
The National Rugby Union Team in Mauritania is a member of the International Rugby Board or IRB. Despite satisfactory performances on the state and national levels, the country is still waiting for the opportunity of participating in the Rugby World Cup tournament, to prove their capabilities and earn fame and glory for the nation.
As far as the global performances of the Mauritanian National Rugby Union Team are concerned, the team played its first ever international match against Ghana in 2003. However, the final result was not in favor of Mauritania, as Ghana won the tournament 29 points to 8, and came out in flying colors.
Like all other rugby playing nations of the world, rugby football in Mauritania or simply rugby refers to a number of sports events descending directly from a common form of football developed at Rugby School in United Kingdom's England. Rugby league and rugby union are modern sports, having their sources from rugby football.
