The Islamic Republic of Mauritania has a surface coverage of 1,030,700 square kilometer. The population of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania is approximately 2.4 millions. The population growth rate in this country is 2.5% and the urban population consists of 53.8% of the total population. The national currency of the Republic of Mauritania is Ouguiya.

The national budget accounts for 24% of the Gross Domestic Product. The Islamic Republic of Mauritania is actually located in the Saharan area of West Africa. The country of Mauritania is bordered by Senegal in the south west, Algeria in the north, Atlantic Ocean in the west, Western Sahara in the North West and Mali in the east and south east.

Around two thirds of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania is found located in the Sahara desert. The altitude ranges from 150 meter in the south west to 460 meters in the north east. This country experiences a desert type of climate. The nights are cool. The temperatures during the day can reach up to 88º Celsius. Rainfall in the north is less than 130mm and in the Senegal valley it is 660mm.

In the political field, the president is the actual head and he is elected on the basis of Universal Adult Suffrage. The tenure is fixed for a period of six years. The president is assisted by the prime minister. Agriculture is considered to be the mainstay of this economy. Sixty seven percent of the total population is involved in agriculture and the main crops include sorghum, rice millets and dates.
