Mauritania is a country, which has seen outbreak of various diseases recently. Some diseases even proved to be a fatal one claiming lives of many people. The medical facilities were very limited in the 80's with limited number of hospitals and rudimentary equipment. Things started developing in the 90's when the government took enormous steps to upgrade the medical facilities available. Health Insurance in Mauritania too came up. Many well equipped hospitals came up during 90's escalating the medical expenditure. More over with the outbreak of the various diseases people thought it is wise to hold Heath Insurance in Mauritania. Many Mauritania's Health Insurance companies came up to meet the growing demands of the people. Health Insurance of Mauritania also gave people money spent during accidents.
Mauritania saw an outbreak of epidemics like cholera and Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever very recently, which proved to be fatal too. Travelers are even susceptible to these diseases. So they must have a health Insurance policy. Diarrhea is also a frequent disease with the travelers which can grow dangerous without taking proper medication. Again it is advised to take vaccinations for Hepatitis A, Typhoid, Yellow fever, which are pretty common here.
The medical facilities are really limited here. Nouakchott has many well equipped hospitals and private practices but not other rural areas which are devoid of any such facilities. It is essential for the medical insurance to cover emergency repatriation.
Previously the insurance policies were reluctant to give health insurance to senior citizens of the country. But now they are offering health insurance to senior citizens.
