Chairman of MCJD is Col. Ely Ould Mohamed Vall and the president is Sidi Mohamed Ould Cheikh Abdullahi. The MCJD or the Military Council for Justice and Democracy is also known as the Le Conseil militaire pour la Justice et la Democratie in Mauritania. The Chairman of MCJD is the head of the supreme body in the political sphere. The MCJD at Mauritania also served as the head of the interim government of Mauritania after the ousting of the president Maaouya Ould Sid'Ahmad Taya on the 3rd of the August.
The Director of the National Police Force, Colonel Ely Ould Mohamed Vall was once the Chairman of MCJD. Later the MCJD in Mauritania pledged to conduct elections within the span of the next two years. The MCJD of Mauritania also promised that it will not allow any of its members to run. Sidi Mohamed Ould Boubacar was the next prime minister following Taya's last prime minister, namely, Sghair Ould M'Bareck.
The official affirmation of the present Chairman of MCJD took place on the 19th of April 2007. The distinguished members of the MCJD, apart from the Chaiman of MCJD, are Col. Sidi Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Alem, Col. Negri Felix, Col. Mohamed Ould Meguett, Col. Mohamed Ould Mohamed Znagui, Dr.-Col. Kane Hamedine, Col. Mohamed Ould Abdi, Col. Ahmed Ould Ameine, Col. Taleb Moustapha Ould Cheikh, Col. Mohamed Cheikh Ould Mohamed Lemine Naval and Col. Isselkou Ould Cheikh El Wely.
