Major Earthquake shook Indonesia on 27th January 2006.
A major earthquake occurred at 16:58:48 (UTC) on Friday, January 27, 2006 in Indonesia. It had a magnitude of 7.7 on the Richter Scale and its epicenter was located in the Banda Sea, about 195 km South of Ambon city. The hypocentral depth was established at 342 km (approx). No Tsunami was generated. The Indonesian Archipelago lies in the active earthquake and volcanic activity zone i.e. the Pacific Ring of Fire. It is seismologically active area as it is the plate boundary where the Pacific Plate is sub ducting below the Eurasian Plate.
