Malta Hockey is getting more and more popular by each day. Hockey in Malta is governed by the organization called "Hockey Association Malta". The organization is working hard for the development of this game in Malta. It is a popular game and the young generation is indeed showing serious interest in it. The Malta Hockey team is not considered as a very strong opponent. But they are putting genuine efforts to make it big.
The Hockey Association Malta encourages foreign teams to come and play against their National team. It helps them to understand their faults and gives them a scope to do better in future. The Association regularly arranges hockey tournaments both for the senior team as well as for the youth team. In the year 2003, the Malta Hockey team achieved great success. In the same year, the hockey association successfully hosted five international teams in the gap of two weeks and also completed their target of making an artificial turf.
In the year 2003, four school teams from Britain and one from Germany came to Malta in the Easter holidays. The camp was held for two weeks and the youth team enjoyed this unique experience. The Association made an exciting rule to make the game more thrilling. They decided to make it a seven- a -side game and there was no goal keeper to save the shots. The boys really like the rule and though they lost it to one goal, it was a fantastic experience for them. Now-a-days, Malta Hockey has spread its wings and many clubs are having their own hockey team. They are looking forward to bring more international players in their national league to add up some more valuable experience and glamour.
