San is one of the important cities of Mali and is located in the region of Segou. San is famous for its mud mosques, which attract people with their spectacular aisles of columns, minarets and interior spaces.

The convenient location of San makes it easily accessible from other parts of the country. The city lies between a latitude of 13° 18' North and longitude of 4° 54' West. The city of San lies on the bank of river Bani that flows through the region of Segou. The city is situated at an altitude of 276 meters above sea level. The cities situated near San are Tiekelinso, Teneni, Bonkouma, Guelikoro, Benenikenyi, Terekongo and Parana.
Climate of San
The climate of San is hot and dry as it falls within the inter tropical climatic zone. It is very hot round the year but the hottest months are from March to June. During this time a dry trade wind known as harmattan blows from the northeast, bringing with it grit, sand and dry air. The rainy season extends from June to September. At this time the landscape gets transformed into a scenery of lush greenery.
People traveling from Segou to Bamako or Mopti often stop at San in Mali for lunch or even for a break. Campement Tenya in San is popular for its good food. The city also serves as a proper refueling stop. Animal-drawn carts are very common mode of transportation in San.
