Bozo Masters of the Niger

Bozo Masters of the Niger is referred to the great Bozo fishermen who are considered as the masters of the Niger River. Bozos Tribe is a prominent ethnic
group of Mali. Bozo People are famous for their fishing skills. They have their settlements, which are either permanent houses built up of mud bricks or are temporary encampments along the river Niger or Bani. Bambara is the frequently used language of the tribe as the knowledge of the local language is not known among non-Bozos. They are very fond of dog meat.

The Niger Bozo Masters are known worldwide for their beautifully carved ritual masks. They are also famous for rock carvings, which dates back more than 6,000 years. Two of the major cities of Mali that is Djenn and Mopti are believe to be founded by Bozo Masters of the Niger. Islam is the main religion followed by the Bozo people, though some section of the group preserve the animist tradition as well.

Bull is the animal totem used by the tribe. The horns represent the Bozo fishing tribe while the body represents the river Niger. Most of the Bozo people are illiterate and their prime vocation is fishing and boat building. Fishing is considered as the traditional provenance of the Bozo tribe. Bozo fishermen are so efficient in their job that they are often referred as the Bozo masters of the Niger.
