Mali at the Olympics has not failed to appear in any of the Summer Olympics since its first appearance at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. However the political boycott of the 1976 Olympics saw the only non appearance of Mali at the Olympics.
The Olympic records of Mali have not been very encouraging because the country has not got many resources to channelize towards its sporting activities. But yet Mali participates in the Olympic Games and thus embodies the true spirit of competitiveness without the aggressive intent to win. All the Olympic teams of Mali have participated in track and field events, swimming and in events like boxing and weight lifting. Although most of the athletes have been ousted at the preliminary levels or in the first or second rounds, yet there has been no end of enthusiastic participation from Mali. However it must be mentioned that Mali had acquired the fifth position in the Men's football in Athens Olympics 2004.
Currently Mali is upgrading the sports facilities of the country so that the sports people can brush up their skills and build new tactical expertise for winning medals at the Olympics. Mali in Olympics has shown a considerably well performance.
