Basketball in Mali is a second favorite game of Mali after football. It is loved by one and all. The Basketball teams are divided into different categories on the basis of age. The different National Basketball teams in Mali are The National Mali Team Senior, National Mali Team U20, National Mali Team U18 and the National Mali Team U16.
The coach of the National Basket ball team of Mali is Francis Charneux, a well known former French basketball player. Some of the famous players of this team are Mobido Niakate, Namory Diarra, Sory Diakite, Salif Niangado, Waly Coulibaly, Alou Badra Sanogo and many more. These players are international level players. The U18 National Basketball Team has a pool of young talent like Kaba, Coulibaly, Haidara, Niane and Tangara. The Mali National Women basket ball team comprises of talented players like Maiga, Sininta, Sissoko, Toure and Damba.
The National Basketball Team of Mali has participated in African Champs '05 and African Champs '01.The Mali National Team was not able to qualify at the quarterfinals of the African Championship held in Angola. The Mali team made a slow start at the beginning after suffering a severe blow from Senegal.
