Mali women still live in a rural setup and therefore are more adept at handling traditional roles. Women of Mali are still homemakers and child bearers and they manage the whole family. Females in Mali are considered at par with men in the workforce by the government and are given equal pay for equal work.
Mali is primarily a male dominated country. Especially, in the rural regions, women suffer from extreme mental and physical torture. Foeticide and infanticide are also common in the country. However, there are several groups and organizations that fight for the women’s rights and their progress. Some of these organizations are:
- Action Committee For Children And Women's Rights In Mali
- Association Des Femmes Educatrice Du Mali
- Women's Collective of Mali
- Association Pour Le Progres Et La Defense Des Droits Des Femmes Maliennes (APDF)
- Mouvement National des Femmes pour la Sauvegarde de la Paix et de l'Unité Nationale
- Comite D'action Pour Les Droits De L'enfant Et De La Femme - CADEF/Mali
- Coordination Des Associations Et ONG Feminines Du Mali (CAFO)
However, the government of Mali is now focusing on the women’s role in the society. Women are being given importance in the Mali Parliament and the several laws have been introduced that fight for the safety of women. Women’s educational progress is also going on in Mali. Various steps have been taken to spread awareness about the importance of women in the society.
