Mali has a rich cultural background and the country celebrates various Festivals throughout the year in different regions. The beautiful country is located on western Africa amidst the desert of Sahara. There are different tribal communities and ethnic groups living in the country. There are several Mali festivals that are celebrated in all the communities of the country.
As 95% of the total population of the country is Muslim, the religious festivals of Mali are same as other Muslim countries. Some of the major religious festivals of the country are:
- Islamic New Year celebrated on 20th January
- Eid ul Fitr celebrated on 13th October
- Eid ul Adha celebrated on 20th December
Other Mali festivals include cultural festivals, musical festivals, harvest festivals and many more.
- The musical festivals of Mali are sponsored by several government and private organization in order to promote the traditional culture of the country.
- Fete des Masques is a five-day long festival celebrated in April by the Dogons. During this festival the people create huge wooden masks and place them in the caves of Tellem.
- The festival on the Niger is celebrated in February. It is a festival of traditional music and dance of Mali.
Various traditional dance and music performance are arranged during these
festivals in Mali. Along with that, different types of fairs are also arranged that display various local artifacts and food.
