Capital of Mali



Bamako, the capital of Mali, is situated along the banks of River Niger in the southern parts of Mali. The capital city of Bamako is located along the geographical coordinates of 12 o 39' N and 8 o 00' W. Bamako is the largest city in Mali and it is the chief administrative, financial, commercial and transportation hub of the country.

Bamako is a modern cosmopolitan city of Mali, which is also known as 'Mecca' of education and culture in Mali. Till the 18th century, Bamako was a large village in Mali engaged in agriculture and fishing. After the French colonization of Mali, Bamako became the center of trade and commerce. The French developed this place as a major industrial belt. Once Mali became independent in 1960, Bamako was made its capital. Since then Bamako has been experiencing greater growth in industrialization.
