Maldives Ministry of Tourism is dedicated to the task of promotion and development of tourism in the country .Maldives been an exotic location enjoys a perennial flow of tourists .In fact tourism is one of the mainstays of its economy. The Ministry's task is thus cut out and includes the devising ways of developing the tourism infrastructure, execution of long term plans and monitoring and controlling of its various functions. It aims at developing an economically profitable tourist industry.
The Ministry of Tourism in Maldives aims at the equal distribution of the economic benefits earned by tourism towards the welfare of the society. The promotion of the tourism industry will contribute to the national income, earn foreign exchange, earn revenues for the government as well as create opportunities for employment. Its assignment also includes making the people of Maldives aware of the worth of the tourist industry and its role in the country's welfare and development. It is also responsible for the proper preservation and upkeep of the various tourist destinations and providing services of an international standard.
The Ministry has various registered hotels, resorts, vessels, guest houses and travel agencies. The Maldives Ministry of tourism also organizes a Shark Watch Program which emphasizes on building awareness about the preservation of the species of sharks for the benefit of the tourism industry. The ministry’s other objective includes the RMB program that is recreational mooring buoy. The RMB endeavors to save marine environment by setting up moorings at surfing sites, safari anchoring sites and diving sites and thus urging them to dock their vessels on the buoys instead of the reef. Maldives Ministry of Tourism strives towards the betterment of the tourism industry which in turn contributes to the overall life and economy of Maldives.
