Zomba Plateau

Zomba plateau in Malawi is one of the most unique spots of the country. It is in the southern part of Malawi and overshadows the Zomba Town.
Zomba plateau is actually a giant slab of a mountain. This plateau is ranked second in height among Malawian plateaus. It is one thousand and eight hundred meters above the sea level. The plateau is densely covered with different types of plants and trees. Here you can mostly find cypress, cedar and pine trees. The scenic beauty of the place is mind blowing. The criss-crossed streams flowing from the mountain and the beautiful lakes with crystal clear water here in the Zomba plateau create a divine ambience in the mind of the tourists. The plateau is also full of beautiful giant butterflies. In the lower slopes of Malawi Zomba plateau, you can also see the baboons. There are leopards as well here in the plateau, but they are rarely seen by the travelers.

According to the geologists, Zomba plateau of Malawi was formed by the hard igneous rocks that managed to survive the erosion caused by the natural forces. The plateau presently offers a wide variety of walks through the forest here. Three of these walk-throughs are immensely popular. The Mulunguzi Damn to the Trout Farm past allows the tourists to see the original forest which is by the side of the stream. The other small yet interesting walk-through is the walk to Songani Lookout from the emperor's view.
Most of the plateau is looked after by the Department of Forestry in Malawi. There is luxury hotel here called Sunbird Ku Chawe which is newly rebuilt. The hotels can arrange horse riding here and trout fishing in season.
