Zomba Malawi

Situated in the southern part of the Malawi, Zomba was known as the capital city of Malawi until 1970. This Malawian city is located at a distance
of two hundred and ninety kilometers from Lilongwe (capital of Malawi) and seventy two kilometers north of the city Blantyre. Founded in the year 1885, it became the administrative centre of Nyasaland (British Central African Protectorate) in the year 1891. Presently the city has a population of about 77100. The people of this city mostly speak Chichewa language which is the national language of Malawi.

Located at the base of the Zomba plateau, the city has different types of blue gum trees. Zomba also has huge buildings featuring colonial pattern of architecture. The most important building bearing this kind of architecture is the Gymkhana Club also known as Golf House of Zomba

The other most significant aspect of the city is its colorful market where you can shop around for several hours. The other attraction of this city is the Zomba plateau. This plateau features small streams, forest, vast grasslands, thus enhancing the beauty of the place. This region is comparatively cooler than other parts of the city. It also houses various soft woods like Mulanji cedar, Mexican Pine and Cypress. The most prominent sight seeing destination of the Zomba city is the Liwonde National Park.
