Satemwa Estate is one of the major tea estates in Malawi. The place is also famous for its scenic beauty. It is on the slopes of the Thyolo Mountain.
The view of the huge tea garden on the slopes and the short walks are quite a memorable experience.

The garden was founded by MacLean Kay in the year 1923. He was a rubber planter from Malaya. The place is also famous for being the dwells of the rare and beautiful birds. As it is a tea estate, there is no free roaming allowed inside the garden. But the travelers arrange a trip to this place with prior necessary permissions.

Both tea and coffee are grown here in the Satemwa Estate. The coffee that grows here are well balanced and delicate. But it is tea that makes Satemwa Estate famous all over the world. The estate grows both black and white tea. It is mostly the black tea though that grows here in Satemwa Estate.

If the guests opt for a stay here the authorities can arrange that in the colonial bungalows inside the estate. These bungalows originally belonged to the former owners of the garden. The guests can have a beautiful view of the garden from here. The rooms are well furnished and equipped with all the modern amenities.

There is a chef and houseman to attend the guests. The authorities provide a tight security outside the rooms. There is also an airfield near the estate which allows the guests to take a flight on their way to this beautiful place. While on a walk through the tea garden,
the guests can see the rare birds like Alethe Choloensis, White winged Apalis or a Greenheaded Oriole. The place is a heaven for bird watchers and even those who are not interested in bird watching will enjoy every moment they spend here.
