Nyika Plateau

The tourists who visit Malawi always makes it sure that they don't miss certain spots of interest. Nyika Plateau is, surely one of them. The place
is in northern Malawi and some parts of Nyika Plateau are in north eastern Zambia. The plateau is protected by two major national parks; one is in Malawi and the other is in Zambia. These are the Nyika National Park in Malawi and the Nyika Plateau National Park in Zambia. The plateau lies approximately two thousand meters above the sea level and the highest point of this plateau is two thousand six hundred and five meters above the sea level. The point is called Nganda Peak. The plateau is well known for its wildlife. There are many rare insects, reptiles and plants found here. But the major attraction of the place is the Zebras that are found here in Nyika Plateau.

Nyika Plateau is a nice place and can be enjoyed better on feet. It is because the place is full of different birds and harmless animals who might be scared by the sound of cars and horns and get deeper into the forest depriving the visitors from having even a glance on them. The variety of wild flowers certainly draws the attention of the tourists. Particularly in October, the forest looks best as Mother Nature decorates it with various seasonal flowers like yellow Helichrysums, blue and pink Gladioli, tiny Hibiscus and some rare orchids like blue Disa that is only found in hilly areas.

The place is perfect for birdwatching, particularly between October and January. Here you can find some rare birds like the Mountain Greenbul, Moustached Green Tinkerbird, Yellow Streaked Bulbul and the Starred Robin. The tourists who visit this place also try to make a trip to the Chisanga Falls as well which is very close to the Nyika Plateau.
The best time to visit the place is between September to May when the migrant birds come and nature is at its best with all its beauty and vibrant colors.
