Mwanza is a small district in the Republic of Malawi with Mwanza town as its capital. This district is located in the Southern Region of Malawi whereas the town is located on the edge of the country. Mwanza district includes a total land area of 2,259 km?.

The population of the district is estimated to be 138,015. In the year 2003 under the decentralization program of the government of Malawi, Mwanza district was divided into two districts known as Mwanza and Neno.

The economy of Mwanza town is largely based on transport and agriculture. As the economy of the Republic of Malawi is agriculture based the country has to depend on the citrus fruits production of this town. Mwanza in Malawi is famous for the production of citrus fruits like tangerine, grapefruit, and lemon.

Mwanza town is the only place in the republic of Malawi where citrus fruits are being produced.
