Malawi Languages

Located in South Africa, towards east Zambia, Malawi is a landlocked country with the beautiful Lake Nyasa. Having a population of about 13, 603,181, this country is the home of varied ethnic groups. The people of Malawi speak different Malawi languages which include Chichewa, Chinyanja, Chiyao, Chilomwe, Chitumbuka, Chisena and Chitonga. The Chichewa is the national Malawi language.

The Chichewa language is used by 57.2 percent of the Malawi populace as their medium of communication. Apart from Chichewa, Chinyanja and Chiyao languages of Malawi are also extensively used by the Malawi people. English is the official language of the country. The Bantu languages are also spoken by a number of Malawi people.

The different kinds of languages of Malawi are used by the various ethnic groups of the country.
These racial groups of this country include Chewa, Tumbuka, Nyanja, Yao, Lomwe, Sena, Tonga, Ngonde, Ngoni, Asian and European.
