Malawi Churches

The religious affiliation of the inhabitants of Malawi, concentrates around two chief religions, Christianity and Islam, the former being practiced by the majority. There are many Malawi churches that are visited by a number of Christians to offer their prayers to Lord Jesus. Though, the Muslims form an important part of the Malawi population there has been no dispute between the two religious communities.

One of the most important churches in the country is the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Malawi (ELCM). Gilbert Msuku, a Lutheran, founded this. The church gained its first recognition from the Malawi government in the year 1982. The head office of this church is situated in the capital of Malawi, Lilongwe. Presently, this Malawi church has 12,000 active members in seventy-eight assemblies. The bishop of this church is J.P. Bvumba.

Located in Lilongwe, the Bible Baptist Church of Malawi is another important place of worship of the Malawi Christians. The teachings of the bishops of this church put emphasis on salvation. The aim of the members of this church is to develop the spiritual mind of the Malawi people through gospel teachings and preaching of Lord Jesus.
