One of the most important churches in the country is the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Malawi (ELCM). Gilbert Msuku, a Lutheran, founded this. The church gained its first recognition from the Malawi government in the year 1982. The head office of this church is situated in the capital of Malawi, Lilongwe. Presently, this Malawi church has 12,000 active members in seventy-eight assemblies. The bishop of this church is J.P. Bvumba.

Located in Lilongwe, the Bible Baptist Church of Malawi is another important place of worship of the Malawi Christians. The teachings of the bishops of this church put emphasis on salvation. The aim of the members of this church is to develop the spiritual mind of the Malawi people through gospel teachings and preaching of Lord Jesus.
