Tsingy de Bemaraha Nature Reserve

Tsingy de Bemaraha Nature Reserve is located in the western part of the island nation of Madagascar. Established in 1997, the reserve covers an area of 666 square kilometers. The park is governed by the Parcs Nationaux Madagascar that is responsible for its upkeep and maintenance.

The Tsingy de Bemaraha Nature Reserve in Madagascar was declared to be a UNESCO World Heritage site in the year 1990. Several factors contributed in the conferring of such an honor. The location of the park in the coastal belt, the habitation of a wide variety of birds and animals especially lemurs and the well-preserved mangrove forests were responsible for it. An area covering 853 square kilometers in the northern side of the park is totally meant for the natural reserve known as Reserve Naturelle Integrale. The reserve is a safe haven for the animals and birds of the region as they are shielded from any kind of intrusion.

The park is accessible from Morondava, located in the southern direction. Tourists can avail vehicles and reach the park by road. The town of Antsalova also has a route to the park. Antsalova is connected by air to other regions in Madagascar like Mahajanga and Antananarivo.

The Tsingy de Bemaraha Nature Reserve is home to limestone highlands and a ‘forest’ of limestone needle like structures. Then again there is the equally awe inspiring canyon of the Manambolo river. The different hills and lofty peaks are other attractions of this beautiful nature park.
