Masoala Peninsula in Madagascar is perhaps one such place in this island which has remained unexplored to a great extent. The rain forest in the peninsula is the natural habitat for a number of birds and animals such as geckos, chameleons, fishes and butterflies. Many of the species of plants and animals that are found on this peninsula have not yet been biologically classified. There is a coral reef that lies along the coast of the Masoala Peninsula. The adjoining Bay of Antogil is a favorite breeding ground of humpback whales.
Masoala National Park on the Masoala Peninsula is ideal for hiking expeditions. It is also the first choice of a wildlife lover. The different varieties of rare species of birds like the red-breasted coua, velvet asity, brown mesite, helmet vanga and scaly ground-roller not only attract tourists but also ornithologists from different parts of the world.
The ideal time to visit the peninsula is between the months of August and December as the weather at this point is dry and pleasant. The chance of rains spoiling the trip is comparatively less during these months.
Visitors to the park are supposed to exercise certain precautions for their own health and safety. Full sleeve clothing comes in handy as these protect from mosquito bites. Another important item that should be carried in this part of the world is a mosquito repellent. The accommodation that the tourists choose to lodge in should have mosquito nets and screens.
