The very mention of Madagascar immediately calls up images of beautiful Madagascar beaches. The Nosy Be archipelago in the northwestern coast has some of the best beaches in Madagascar. The sunny beaches, the warm sands, the sound of the surf are some of the main reasons for the popularity of Madagascar amongst tourists. Andilana, a beach on the northern end of the archipelago, is easily accessible. Nosy Komba also has a beautiful beach, close to the village of Ampangorinana. Nosa Tanikely is popular for its marine reserve but the local beach is also an added attraction. Turtles Island or Nosy Iranja is another popular beach in the vicinity.
The western coasts of the island have a number of caves bordered with palm trees. These isolated inlets are ideal for swimming and snorkel diving. The Ile Aux Nattes, a small offshore island in the region, has one of the superb beaches in Madagascar. There are also a couple of other attractions on the beach. There are the orchids which bloom in September and make the surroundings all the more picturesque. People who visit the islands in between the months of July and October may well get a chance to see the whales who migrate during this time in large numbers.
The Morondava coastline has a nice beach which is frequented by tourists as it is safe for swimming. The beach at Ifaty is a crowd puller attracting mainly the scuba divers.
The beach at Anakao, a fishing village, has a charm of its own. Its location accounts for the less number of tourists who visit the place. Beach activities like surfing, diving and fishing are common here. One finds the beach beautifully lined with painted dugout canoes. At a distance of about 3 kilometers from Anakao lies the Nosy Be Island with its pristine white beaches.
All in all Madagascar is the perfect place to head for if you are looking for some sand and surf. The virgin beaches of this idyllic island has lots to offer in terms of beach activities.
