Madagascar island is the world's fourth largest island and is situated in the south east coast of Africa just opposite to Mozambique. Island of Madagascar makes the way to the central plateau and it is due to the low lying coastal area in this region. Madagascar island consists of highland plateau and the coastal strip makes it comparatively narrower in the east and wider in the west. The history of Madagascar island dates back to the Malayo – Indonesian and African – Arab ancestry and they were considered as the first civilization in Madagascar. The Indonesians migrated to the Madagascar island around 700 AD whereas the French arrived in between 1894- 1895.
The Madagascar island has multi party Republic and is officially referred as the Republic of Madagascar. Madagascar island is divided into six province. Flora and Fauna formed the very part of Madagascar geography but presently deforestation caused a huge loss of the bushy dense vegetation of the island. In 1997, a national park is established to protect the wildlife of the Madagascar Island like lemurs, orchids and other such wild species. Various lagoons are found in the east coast and they are connected to the Pangalenese Canal of Madagascar Island.
The Economy of the Madagascar island is largely based on agriculture and the islands fertile farmland are basically in the east and northwest. The principal crops are coffee, sugarcane, vanilla, sugarcane, cloves and the main food crops includes rice, beans, peanuts, cassava and bananas. Fishing and Forestry are also forms the important part of economy. Madagascar Island carries Foreign trade but it is usually in smaller scale.
