One of the most endangered creatures of earth is the Madagascar fish. The island had once been the home of a number of rare species of fishes. But over the years, due to changes in ecological system and a rise in human population, Madagascar fish has become one of the fast disappearing animal species in Madagascar.
The number of species of freshwater fishes of Madagascar is 152. There are numerous freshwater fishes in Madagascar, some of which are the most colorful and exquisite fishes on earth. Madagascar fishes include Picnic seabream, Fairy mullet, Slender glassy, Longspine glassy, Indonesian shortfin eel, African longfin eel, Humpback cardinal, Blacktip sea catfish, Madagascar sea catfish, freshwater goby, red-tailed Silverside, Duckbill sleeper, Goldfish, Pigeye shark, Snakehead murrel, Milkfish, common carp and others. Dusky sleeper, Mosquito fish, Heterotis, Blue-spotted pipefish, Silver Carp, Rock flagtail, Green Sunfish, Bluegill, Paradise fish, Indo-Pacific tarpon, Rainbow trout, Chinook salmon, Tilapias, Snake eels, Saw fishes are some of the other species of fishes of Madagascar.
The fishes of Madagascar inhabit the streams, lakes and rivers. Today due to the extinction of the fishes in Madagascar the people of the island are becoming increasingly concerned about the conservation of the endemic fishes of the island. Conservation can be done in various ways. One method is to set up a Madagascar aquarium tank where fishes can be bred. Madagascar fishes thus form a principal aspect of the island's ecological system and should be protected from further extinction.
