The beginning of the Ohrid Summer Festival dates back to the year 1961. This festival is held each year for one month and nine days, starting from the 12th of July and concluding on the 20th of August. In 1961, the festival was held on August 4th Prima- Donna Ana Lipsa Tofovoc. at the This festival is aimed at bringing out the rich cultural heritage of the Macedonians.
The festival has many a renowned patron, the most famous being the President of the Republic of Macedonia. As this festival has become a major crowd puller and an upholder the Macedonia, the resources for the production are supplied by the Ministry of Culture, Macedonia. Also, the members of the Club of the Friend of the Festivals. In the year 1994, the Ohrid Summer Festival came to be recognized as a member of the European Festival Association.
The Ohrid Summer Festival has completed forty seven years in the July- August session of 2007. It forms a performance platform for not only Macedonians but also other internationally acclaimed artists.Jose carreras, Zubin Mehta, Gideon Kremer, Vadim Repin, Maxim Wengerov are a few to name who have till date honored the summer festival of Ohrid.
