Following any religion in Macedonia is allowed and all followers of all religious faith are treated with equal importance and granted equal rights. The constitution of Macedonia declares "The right to express one's faith freely and publicly, individually or with others, is guaranteed.". Macedonia has a huge population followers of the Macedonian Orthodox Church, 0.5% are Roman catholics, 2.8% belong to the minority religious groups and 30% of the Macedonians are Muslims.
The Macedonian Orthodox Church has played a vital role in bringing together the non residential Macedonians in Australia, Canada, the United States and certain other countries of the west. The objective is to retain the culture among emigrant Macedonians. More over, from the 9th century, the Macedonian orthodox church is concerned with the spread for education among the residents. Thus this religion in Macedonia has helped in social progress.
The Macedonian Orthodox church is headed by the St. Clement's Archbishopric and there are six bishops under the Archbishop. The funds for the organization of the various events by the church is self financed.
Macedonia has been peaceful and tolerant in terms of religious acceptance. There are reportedly, over forty different faiths in Macedonia and there has been no reported incident of violence on grounds of religion.
