The International Festival of Antique Theater, Stobi is presently an International drama festival in Macedonia. In this event, drama and theater performers from all over the world are invited to participants. The first event of this festival was held in 1992. The objective then was to promote ancient theater. The international outlook of this festival was bestowed upon in the year 2004. The growing popularity and the increased participation is the proof to the fact that the project has been an enormous success.
Each year the audience seems to keep increasing by a sharp rate. In the recent times there has been around two thousand to three thousand visitors to the International Festival of Antique Theater, Stobi. The festival honors the best of directors, actors and presentations among all the participants. The healthy competition that it has thus ushered in has encouraged many an upcoming theater personalities.
It is largely due to the effort of these kinds of Macedonian festivals that the ancient drama by the Sophocles, Euripides and Aristophanes has been up for display for the general public. The location of Stobi is appropriately adapted to suit the ancient set up of the theaters. The Theaters have been a big hit with Macedonians and other other countries as well.
