In the Republic of Macedonia, sports activities are encouraged. Macedonia sports have made their mark in the sports world. The participation of Macedonia in Olympics has raised the esteem of the country. The Olympic Committee of Macedonia arranges participation of Macedonian athletes in the Olympic Games. There are also a number of sports associations and sports clubs in the country.

The athletes from Macedonia have won medals in the Olympic Games as well as in other sports competitions. Mogamed Ibragimov is an important name in Macedonia Sports. After the independence of the country, he was the first sports person to bring the Olympic medal for Macedonia.

In the Olympics of 1984 in Los Angeles, Shaban Trstena won gold medal in wrestling. Trstena won a silver medal in 1988 Olympics, held at Seoul. In Sydney Olympics, held in 2000, Ibragimov achieved a bronze medal. Athletes from Macedonia have so far won medals from soccer, boxing, wrestling, swimming, basket ball, athletics and shooting.

Macedonian athletes took part in the Olympic Games for 10 times in total. But this count also includes the participations before the country gained independence in 1991. Participation of Macedonia in Olympics has brought 11 medals for the country. Out of the 11 medals, 5 are silver, 2 are gold and rest of the 5 are bronze medals.
