St Naum, Ohrid is one of the beautiful monasteries in Macedonia. The monastery and the church were built by a monk named St. Naum, during 10th century. The monastery of St. Naum is situated near the lake Ohrid. It is a very rocky region and Crn Drim spring is very near to the monastery. Parts of the church building were excavated after Second World War. In the Ottoman period, the present day church was built.
The monastery of St. Naum has been renovated and alterations in its constructions were made over the years. The monastery has fresco paintings and iconostases that were painted during 16th and 17th centuries. The paintings are based on different events from the life of St. Naum and his miracles. Some of them are painted above the tomb of the monk.
One can also find writings in Byzantine Greek languages. But it is assumed, that they may have been etched by Slavik monks. In St Naum, Ohrid, there are many inscriptions that are evidences of Slavik culture and society. Among the paintings, the icon of St. Naum is one of the magnificent works in the monastery. These icons were made in about 18th century. Here, iconostases made from wood carving have been found in St. Naum.
