St John Caneo, Ohrid is one of the most visited churches in Macedonia. This church was built in the memory of St. Kaneo, the theologian. The church has been built sometimes before 1447. The Church of
St John Caneo or St. Kaneo is built near the lake Ohrid.
St John Caneo, Ohrid is built on a stone base, that is rectangular in shape. The beautiful dome of the church is octagonal in shape. The exterior walls of the church have stone carvings and they are also decorated with sculptures made from ceramic. The exact dates for the fresco paintings are not known.
But the paintings that have been preserved till now are reflective of the beautiful art of the contemporary period. Some of the mention worthy fresco are the portraits of St. Erasmus, St. Clement and Constantine Kavasilas and that of Communion of Apostles.
The architecture of the St John Caneo, Ohrid in Macedonia is also fascinating. The construction of this religious building is an amalgamation of American style and Byzantine style of architecture. St John Caneo, Ohrid has become one of the important Macedonia attractions to tourists.
