Monastery in Macedonia is frequently visited by tourists and followers. Some of the monasteries are evidences of Byzantine art and architecture. They are dedicated or built by famous saints in Macedonia. These religious centers are popular among tourists due to their magnificent art works and fresco paintings.

Among the monasteries in Macedonia, Saint Panteleimon, Ohrid is a renowned one. It was built during 12th century. Among the monasteries in the country, this is one of the oldest one. The initiative to set up the monastery of Saint Panteleimon, Ohrid was taken up by prince Alexios Komnenos. The fresco paintings in this monastery are magnificent.

Markov Monastery is located in the Markova Sushica in Macedonia. The church was built in the memory of martyr St Demetrius. One can cherish the beautiful fresco paintings along with other art works that reflect the Byzantine style.

St Naum, Ohrid is another fascinating monastery in Macedonia. River Crn Drim, flows very near to this monastery. The monastery has been set up in a rocky region. There is a church located in the same complex. The monastery and the church were built by St. Naum during 10th century.

Monastery of St. Jovan Bigorski has been built in the village Rostuse. The church was built in honor of St. John the Baptist. This monastery was constructed in 1020 and the initiative to build it was taken up by Archbishop Jovan.
