The political system of Luxembourg is based on Luxembourg Constitutional Monarchy. The Constitutional Monarchy of Luxembourg works under the system of Parliamentary Democracy.
The Luxembourg Constitutional Monarchy has got three branches in the functioning of the government. These are the executive, legislative and the judiciary. The judiciary works independently in Luxembourg. However the executive and the legislature work in cooperation with one another.
The head of the state is Grand Duke who has got a complete political immunity. He forms his government by appointing ministers and secretaries of the state. Based on the election's results, the Prime Minister is chosen by him.
The legislature of Luxembourg comprises of the Parliament, the government and the Council of State. They play their own significant roles in the running of the government. The members of the Parliament are appointed for a period of 5 years. The Parliament basically votes on the bills. The government takes initiative in legislative matters. The role of the Council of State is chiefly advisory.
The judicial power in Luxembourg is exercised by the courts and tribunals. The judiciary in Luxembourg is divided into two: the judicial order and the administrative order. The Constitutional Court lies at the apex of the hierarchy of the judiciary.
