Lithuanian Wedding is performed in a very traditional style and the rituals and customs associated with the wedding ceremony ceremony dates back to hundred of years. Although in the recent times wedding in Lithuania has evolved slowly but one thing that always remains static is the importance of family among the Lithuanians. A typical Lithuanian Wedding is performed with the incorporation of family members from both sides with a matchmaker in between them.
Lithuanian Wedding can be categorized into three different steps and they are mentioned below:
- Bride's goodbye to her family and home and her introduction to the groom's place/residence- The Lithuanian Wedding is performed in a very traditional way. In the early morning the bride says good bye to her parents and is the saddest part of the wedding and incorporates traditional farewell songs. The bride arrives at the home of her future husband along with a dowry drivers and that contains all the necessary and important items. On entering the grooms home for the first time the bride places a red towel on the stove in order to attain good graces of the spirits of home and then she presents the items sent by her parents for the grooms parents.
- The second part of the marriage deals with the wedding ceremony itself- The actual wedding ceremony now takes place in the church and is performed according to the Lithuanian traditions.
- The third and the last step in marriage is coming back- The final stage of the ceremony is the coming back of bride to her parent's home and it generally takes place after one week of honeymoon. The bride is now treated as a guest in her home rather than a family member.
Lithuanian Wedding is typically performed in accordance to the Lithuanian society and culture and hasn't changed a bit in the recent times.
