Lithuania's Parliament



Lithuania is a democratic republic the government of which functions on the basis of the country's constitution. Lithuania parliament is the body that, along with the President,
the government and the court, is responsible for exercising state power in the country.

The parliament of Lithuania is called Seimas and it is the supreme governmental body, holder and executioner of state power in Lithuania. Lithuania parliament is comprised of a total number of 141 deputies who are elected for a term of four years. The parliament in Lithuania is extremely powerful and has the authority to adopt and amend the constitution of the country.

Moreover, Lithuanian parliament also has the power to adopt laws of the land, to consider and approve the programs to be taken up by the government of the country, to control and check the activities of the government, to approve the annual governmental budget etc. Other functions and powers of the Seimas include the establishment of state institutions, appointment and dismissal of the chairpersons of the state institutions, settlement of issues related to the state.



Seimas plays a crucial role in governmental affairs in the country. Thus, it is clearly evident that the Lithuania parliament has various powers, functions and responsibilities.
