Lithuania natural resources comprise of adequate resources of clay, quartz sand, limestone, dolomite and gypsum sand. These resources facilitate the growth of such manufacturing industries as glass, ceramics and cement.
There is also a good supply of mineral water. But there is a dearth of industrial raw materials and sources of energy. The Lithuanian territory had rich reserves of oil which were discovered during the 1950s. But over the years most of the resources have been depleted. Amongst the remaining ones, a large number of them are concentrated in the western part of the country. The estimated reserve of oil that is there in the west and the Baltic Sea shelf. Lithuania also has the potential to produce a sizable amount of thermal energy. The area along the coast of the Baltic Sea is suitable for the generation of thermal energy. The energy thus produced can be used to heat and light up the homes of its people. The natural resources in Lithuania also include iron ore reserves. The regions in the southern part of Lithuania are the site of these iron ore reserves. These resources can well be exploited at commercial levels through the process of strip mining. But that is bound to have an adverse effect on the environment. The utilization of these natural resources would also require huge monetary investments.
