Lithuania has a wide variety of wildlife including wolves, otters, foxes, ermines and badgers. The diverse Lithuania fauna comprises of three hundred species of birds and sixty species of mammals. The animal life in Lithuania consists of bison, wild boar, deer, beaver, mink and others. A wide variety of birds are found in the Zuvintas preserve of the country. The white stork is the most common bird found in Lithuania.Aside these species, nightingales, falcon, cuckoos, owls and hawks form a major part of the Lithuania Fauna.
Though not unique, the wildlife in Lithuania shows a wide range of diversity. The southern parts of the country there exists a rare species of cattle. The Lithuanian Light Grey, a native cattle breed of Lithuania has alarmingly decreased in the recent years. The body color of the animal is generally light -grey, ash-grey or light blue grey. These light grey cattle were mostly bred in many parts of Latvia. The Latvian Blue cattle are an important species of the wildlife in Lithuania. Toads, frogs and various types of fishes inhabit the aquatic bodies of the country.
For the conservation of these rare Lithuania fauna, the government and various NGO's have taken many significant measures. The Lithuanian Veterinary Academy, Institute of Animal Science and AnGR Committee staff is working hard for the preservation of the wildlife in Lithuania. The Green Movement and the Sajudas are the programs that have been implemented for the conservation of Lithuania Fauna.
