The currency of Lithuania is Litas which is symbolized as Lt. Litas is the official currency of Lithuania. One Litas can be divided into a 100 centai. Litas emerged as the country's currency in 1922 after the First World War during the time of Lithuania's independence. The currency was reintroduced in 1993. From 1994 to 2002 one Litas equaled 4 U.S. Dollars. Under the Soviet rule, Lithuania had the rouble as its currency. But later Litas was declared as the official currency.
The coins are in denominations of LT 1, LT 2 and LT 5. The notes are in denominations of LT 2, LT 5, LT 10, LT 20, LT 50, LT 100 and LT 200. The rate of exchange between Litas and Euro is LT #.45 equals one Euro.
