Most of the people are ethnic Lithuanians and speak Lithuanian. The villages can be reached by rail or bus. Some of the villages are well-developed.

The architecture of these structures represent the various foreign architectural styles that have influenced Lithuanian architecture over centuries. The villages have long histories and have withstood the ravages of time. Some have been destroyed during times of political turmoils while some still bear witness to the long past of Lithuania.
