Ninth Fort, Lithuania



Ninth Fort is a famous historical site in Lithuania and is a site of mass capital punishment of Jews in Kovno. From June 1941 to the summer of 1944 more than 50,000 people were killed here during the German occupation.
Located at a distance of four miles from Kovno the place served as prison between the two world war. The prisoners at the ninth fort in Kaunas were strictly guarded and they were chained after their completion of work.

Presently the Ninth fort houses a museum and is a great Lithuania attraction. The Ninth fort museum houses collections of genocide and holocaust which were executed during the Soviet and Hitler's occupation along with the historical materials from the Kaunas and Ninth fort.



Cultural and education activity are continuously carried on in the museum and exhibitions are the major attraction on this place. The exhibitions are organized by various persons and they commemorate historical date with respect to the themes of mourning and holocaust.

The significance of Ninth Fort will always remain the same in Lithuanian history as this is the place where Nazis and their assistants were killed innumerable Jews from Lithuania as well as from the European country.
