MK Ciurlionis Museum, Lithuania



The Museum of Art in Lithuania was established in 1921 in the city of Kaunas. It 1925 the museum inaugurated the M.K. Ciurlionis Art Gallery. The museum was renamed Vytautas
the Great Museum of Culture in 1936 and again renamed M. K. Ciurlionis Museum in 1944. In 1997, it was declared a National Museum in the country.

The oldest and largest art museum in Lithuania, M. K. Ciurlionis Museum traces the development of art in Lithuania from the Middle Ages till the present times. Thus, one can learn about the history of Lithuanian art in this museum. M. K. Ciurlionis Museum of Lithuania displays a wide collection of art works by the well-known artists, M. K. Ciurlionis. The collection of artworks in M. K. Ciurlionis Museum consists of folk art of Lithuania, ancient Egyptian art, 17th to 20th century fine art and applied art of Lithuania, foreign art, numismatics etc.



M. K. Ciurlionis Museum in Lithuania also has a number of interesting archives containing folk art and art life of the country. The archives give a comprehensive picture of art in Lithuania including its history, development, varieties etc. There are 334,758 art exhibits in the museum. The museum is a reserve of artworks and is sure to capture the attention of its visitors.
